Child Development (CDA)

This program is designed to prepare you to obtain a Child Development Associate National Credential. The student will learn classroom development theory; participate in clinical experience; complete all portfolio requirements.

 

Prerequisites: High School Diploma or GED; Currently employed in the child-care field.  

Age: Adults 17+

Location Served: Rochester/Monroe County and surrounding counties

Child Development Associate Entry Requirements: 

  • Current Year Income
    • 1040/1040A or 1040 EZ Tax Form (wage statement and paystubs NOT accepted); or
    • Letter of Introduction and current Budget Sheet from DHS; or
    • Total income from Social Security, Disability, or Supplemental Security
  • Photo Identification
    • United States Citizenship (New York State Driver License, United States Passport or NYS Department of Human Services Photo Benefit Card); or 
    • Legal Alien Status (I-94 or Green Card)
  • Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) Test
    • 8.0 reading comprehension
    • 6.0 math
  • Immunization Record
    • PPD Record from physician.  
  • 2 Letters of Reference
  • Interview with Early Childhood Department.

Duration of Program: 30 + weeks (varies depending on participant)

Cost: Tuition-free

Fees: Application fee for national CDA certification - $325 (approximately); Text Book - $50; (NYS Educational Incentive Program [EIP] funds may be available).

Career Options: Teachers/Assistant Teachers in Early childhood programs; Child Care Centers; Family Child Care; BOCES; Rochester City School District.
