About This Program

The Hospitality Hub Program will prepare students for employment in the hospitality industry. In classroom training will culminate in an internship where participants will engage in experiential learning while working on-the-ground in downtown Rochester as hospitality guides. In this role, they will walk the downtown area, providing directions and insights into the area’s many attractions and amenities and offer assistance to local residents, workers, and visitors. The program will equip students with the knowledge and skills to make connections to resources or public services that will enhance the downtown experience for all. In addition to the experiential learning provided, this internship will provide participants with a stipend for the work completed during internship hours. The certification and practical hand-on experience will make students more marketable as they enter a career path in the hospitality industry.

Program Description:
The course will focus on the career/education trajectory in the hospitality industry, to help students outline what their next steps may be for growth and promotion in this field.  The course will focus not only on gaining immediate employment upon completion, but also look at what secondary education options are available in the field.  In addition, the course will include soft skill necessary in the hospitality industry, career opportunities, and secondary education opportunities in the field.

Program Description:
The course will focus on resume writing, interview skills and job search strategies specific to the hospitality industry. The first week of the course will allow Career Services to focus on helping students to understand the specific skills needed to obtain employment in this industry, as well as, preparing students for the hiring events and other career opportunities.

Program Description:
This course is an overview of the hospitality field looking at the scope, diversity, and range of opportunities, including jobs in Lodging, Recreation, Security, and Travel & Tourism.  Students will learn the skills and prerequisites necessary to enter and succeed in each of these sectors, with a high emphasis of customer service excellence, tourism & meetings, conventions, and expositions.  Fieldtrips will be included in this section.

Program Description:
This course builds on the foundational concepts of hospitality, focusing on advanced topics such as customer service excellence, hospitality operations, emerging trends, and technology in the industry.  Student will develop a deeper understanding of hospitality and tourism related sectors, including access to Visit Rochester’s ROC Star 2.0 Destination Training that is designed to give students the knowledge to drive tourism growth in the Greater Rochester area.

Program Description:
This course focuses on the skills, knowledge, and confidence essential to provide exceptional customer experiences.  By the end of the course, students will be equipped to enhance customer satisfaction, build brand loyalty, and contribute to a positive service culture.

Program Description:
The Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Program is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to recognize, understand, and respond to signs of mental health challenges and crises. This training provides practical strategies for offering initial support and guiding individuals toward professional help when needed.  Additionally, the City of Rochester and Monroe County will provide workshops and overviews of resources and contacts in our community.

Program Description:
The Security Guard Act of 1992 mandates that all private security trainers must be certified. All security guards are required to complete an 8 Hour Pre-Assignment Training Program prior to applying to the Department of State for a Security Guard Registration Card. REOC’s Security Guard Training is designed to provide the 8 Hour Pre-Assignment Training Program so that successfully completing students are trained and approved to apply for the Department of State for a Security Guard Registration Card.

Program Description:
Hospitality Guides will be assigned to downtown Rochester zones/areas.  The Hospitality Guides will support pedestrian “wayfinding”, promote amenities and activities, parking, and making connections to resources or public services where needed/appropriate. Stipends will support the work of students during their internship. Students will be supported through a series of field trips, interactive workshops, and guided walking tours of downtown Rochester in partnership with the library and a local historian.
