Ironwood Heavy Highway, LLC provides vegetation management and storm restoration services to utility companies and their communities across North America. The Ground Person is responsible for gathering and feeding brush and debris into a woodchipper, scanning areas for trip and fall hazards, and ensuring the safety and integrity of the work area / site. This position is also responsible for maintaining equipment and materials.


  • Uses a chainsaw to cut brush, logs, and stumps of larger trees. Works from the ground using gasoline powered chainsaws.
  • Loads and unloads trucks with logs, stumps, brush and debris and / or feeds brush into a woodchipper.
  • Will gather brush and carry to chipper area.
  • Uses hand lines (ropes) to lower limbs and equipment.
  • Works around excessive noise from machines, chainsaws, woodchipper and must wear proper personal protective equipment.
  • Is exposed to all temperatures and weather; will be exposed to nature, i.e., irritating plants, biting, or stinging insects, dust, etc.
  • May work on rough terrain.
  • Carries and lays out tools and equipment at work site.
  • Keeps work area picked up and orderly.
  • Safeguards employees and public from hazards in and around the work area. Cooperates with customer, police, and fire departments when blocking streets or driveways. Sets up barriers, warning signs, flags, etc. to protect employees as well as the public.
  • Be willing to be trained in industry best practices consistent with the role of a Ground Person.


  • Must be able to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Must be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times per day.
  • Must be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work tasks such as rain, heat, sun, cold, snow.
  • Possess the ability to lift, move, and maneuver up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis and up to 30 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to operate and service all required tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work long hours and overtime during emergencies (including holidays, weekends, storm work) and be subject to call-out work.

Physical Requirements:

  • RARE (less than 10%): Sittings, crawling, lifting over 50 pounds.
  • OCCASSIONAL (up to 33%): stooping, kneeling squatting, body twisting, sense of touch, climbing on/off truck, gripping, lifting over 10 pounds to 50 pounds, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing.
  • FREQUENT (up to 66%): standing, walking, manual dexterity, seeing distances of 300’ or greater, range of motion, hearing-speech range, depth perception, lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • CONTINUOUS (up to 100%): Sense of touch, gripping, seeing, carrying, pulling.
