Program Description
The Barbering program will expose individuals to all aspects of barbering through 580 hours of lecture, practice demonstration, computer-based instruction, practical and theory worksheets with illustrations and client work. The Barbering instruction is delivered by Masters Barbers who are also business owners. Their diverse presentation provides a broad learning experience with updated application in the profession of Barbering.
Upon completion of a seven-month curriculum, students will receive a Barber HIV Certificate of Completion and will be well-prepared to take the New York State Board Examination, and be licensed as a Master Barber.
CAREER OUTLOOK
Employment of barbers, hairdressers, and cosmetologists is projected to grow 10 percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations. Most job openings will result from the need to replace workers who leave the occupation. ¹
